THE Bruce Bishop Car Park and Surfers Paradise Transit Centre will be on the market by October despite an effort to pause the sale.

Surfers Paradise councillor Gary Baildon attempted to move a motion to pause the sale until legal action foreshadowed by a community group was resolved.

A SURFERS Paradise lobby group opposed to the sale of the Bruce Bishop car park has revealed its loss will remove up to 40 per cent of available spaces in the tourism heart.

Once the car park is sold for redevelopment, Surfers will lose 1640 spaces out of the 4073 that Save Surfers Paradise spokeswoman Deborah Kelly says are currently available in the district from Cypress Ave in the north down to the Q1 tower.

PLANS to sell the Bruce Bishop car park may be unlawful and will have to be put on hold after a challenge today by the Save Surfers Paradise Steering Committee. Committee coordinator, Surfers Paradise business operator Deborah Kelly said a legal sub-committee chaired by retired Judge Clive Wall QC had found the decision to sell was unlawful and had been reached in clear contravention of basic administrative law principles.
